Innovative programs to be realized in the field of Children's Rights

On November 20, 2019, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The Memorandum was signed by Ulvi Mehdiyev, the Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Edward Carwardine, UNICEF Representative to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Memorandum covers realisation of various projects, as well as programs and joint innovative projects supporting the latest solutions in the field of digital government within cooperation. It is also planned to raise awareness and promote children`s rights through ASAN volunteers.

Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, delivered information about projects on the field of digital government and innovations, along with protection and promotion of children`s rights, raising awareness in Baku, as well as regions. It was drawn to attention that the memorandum will lead to a lot of opportunities to expand the cooperation.

In his turn, Edward Carwardine, UNICEF Representative to the Republic of Azerbaijan, underlined that in the eve of 30th anniversary of Convention on the Rights of the Child, it is necessary to build new cooperations. It was noted that the cooperation between UNICEF and the State Agency is going to provide thousands of families throughout Azerbaijan with information on children`s rights, as well as social innovations, which, in return, is expected to contribute to useful outcomes in the long-term.

The guests also got acquainted with the exhibition called “Convention on the Rights of the Child: in the eyes of children” made by school pupils.

November 20 is celebrated as International Children`s Day. In 1954, the the UN General Assembly recommended all world countries to celebrate this day which is dedicated to the activities toward to improve children`s welfare. On November 20, 1959, the UN General Assembly accepted the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, and on the same day in 1989, Convention on the Rights of the Child was accepted.

UNICEF and ASAN Volunteers Organisation have conducted numerious events in the eve of 30th anniversary of Convention on the Rights of the Child.
